COLORADO CITY —The Town of Colorado City has filled a vacancy on its town council, appointing Laura Timpson to fill the appointment until the next election cycle following Nathan Burnham’s resignation after moving outside town limits.

The appointment came during a special meeting held Thursday, February 12, where the council heard from four candidates vying for the seat: Dale Barlow Jr., Jacob Hammon, Laura Timpson, and Lacy Blackmore.

Each applicant was given an opportunity to address the council for a few minutes, presenting their qualifications and outlining their vision for the town’s future. Council members then asked questions of the candidates before deliberating on their choice.

Following the presentations, Timpson received a majority of council votes to secure the appointment.

Timpson was immediately sworn in by Mayor Howard Ream and took her seat on the council.

Under Arizona law, the council had 30 days from Burnham’s resignation to fill the vacancy by appointment.

A lifelong resident of Colorado City area, Timpson brings extensive community involvement and business experience to the council. She has owned and operated a business in the area for 33 years and has deep roots in community service, including serving on the PTA, volunteering with local nonprofits, and working as a foster parent.

In a statement to the UZona Record following her appointment, Timpson expressed her commitment to the town and its residents.

“I feel a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility,” Timpson said. “I truly have the best interests of the people in Colorado City at heart, and I’m eager to listen to your concerns, ideas, and hopes for the future.”

Timpson emphasized her focus on community growth and youth engagement. “Together, we can work to help this community continue growing while making it an even safer, more vibrant, and welcoming place—especially for our youth and teenagers,” she said.

The appointment marks a return to public service for Timpson, who previously ran for a council seat in 2024. In that election, she narrowly lost to Thomas Holm by 57 votes.

Timpson will serve alongside her fellow council members in governing the town until the next election, where three four-year seats and one two-year seat will be up for election.
