COLORADO CITY, AZ – The Mohave County Republican Central Committee (MCRCC) Executive Committee has unanimously approved the creation of a new political district serving the North Canyon region, marking a significant shift in the county’s Republican organizational structure.

The newly formed District IV encompasses Colorado City, Cane Beds, Centennial, Moccasin, and the Littlefield/Beaver Dam area. This represents the first expansion of Mohave County’s Republican district structure, which has historically operated with three districts since its inception.

“We are delighted to announce the establishment of the Mohave County Republican Central Committee, District IV North Canyon,” said MCRCC Chairman Jodi Saegesser. “This is a long-awaited development that will help serve the numerous Republican voters in this area.”

Carl Pavilonis has been appointed as Interim District IV Director and will serve until the position comes before the full MCRCC Committee for a vote in April, following necessary bylaw amendments.

“With Carl as our interim district director, North Canyon now has a voting seat on our board and will be an asset in helping keep Mohave County and Arizona red for future generations,” Saegesser said.

Previously, the county’s Republican organization was divided into three districts: District I covering Kingman, Golden Valley and northern areas; District II serving Bullhead City, Fort Mohave and surrounding communities; and District III representing Lake Havasu City and areas to the south. The North Canyon communities were formerly grouped within District I.

According to Pavilonis, the decision to create the new district was based on the area having sufficient Republican voters, along with unique characteristics and different needs than Kingman. The creation of District IV will provide the North Canyon communities with greater autonomy and is expected to attract more attention from candidates in both Mohave County and statewide Arizona races, as well as from elected officials once in office.

The new district is extending invitations to candidates in upcoming elections to visit the area. “We are inviting candidates for all of the upcoming elections to come visit, experience the strong work ethic and the kind nature of our Community and as a bonus, the beauty of our canyon,” Pavilonis said.

Saegesser noted that while the district has been created, the MCRCC’s bylaw committee still needs to complete some bylaw changes and fine-tuning before the position comes to a vote in April.

The timing of the district’s creation comes as Republicans prepare for critical 2026 elections. At the federal level, the midterm elections are seen as crucial for maintaining the slim Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and control of the Senate. Arizona’s statewide primary is scheduled for August.

Local races on the ballot include Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat, two Legislative District 30 seats in the Arizona House, as well as statewide offices including Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, and Superintendent of Education. At the local level, voters will decide Colorado City Town Council races and, in a historic first, the town’s inaugural mayoral election.

Given the Republican-leaning nature of many Arizona districts, whoever wins the Republican primary is expected to prevail in the November general election for several of these races, making the August primary particularly significant for the region.
