Colorado City, Arizona – Jacob Jessop, has retired from the Colorado City Municipal Airport Advisory Committee after 10 years of service. The announcement was made during the Committee’s meeting on December 4, 2025, where Jessop reflected on his long history with the airport and its evolution.

Jessop, a passionate aviator, joined the airport committee in 2015 and served for 10 years, contributing significantly to the development and maintenance of the facility. His tenure was characterized by a commitment to improving and the small general aviation airport, which serves the community on the Arizona-Utah border.

A licensed pilot since 1988, Jessop has flown his Cessna 182 extensively, often making trips to Phoenix and relying on the Colorado City airport for its convenience. “I really appreciated having the Colorado City airport for convenience,” Jessop reflected in a recent statement, emphasizing how the facility has been essential for local pilots.

Jessop’s personal history with the airport dates back to its earlier, more rudimentary days. In the beginning, landings were on a simple dirt strip with no lights, requiring creative solutions for night operations. Jessop recalled asking his wife to position vehicle headlights on the runway to guide him in safely. Determined to improve conditions, he personally introduced construction marker lights—blinking portable units—that became the airport’s first rudimentary runway lighting system.

These contributions helped pave the way for ongoing enhancements at the airport, which today features paved runways and supports general aviation activities for the community.

Local aviation enthusiasts and  committee members have expressed gratitude for his service on commitee and enduring passion for flying.

The Colorado City Municipal Airport continues to play a vital role in the region, offering essential access for private pilots and emergency services. Jessop’s legacy as a pioneer in its improvement will undoubtedly endure.
