HILDALE, UT – Hildale City officially kicked off the holiday season on December 4 with its fifth annual Christmas Tree Lighting event, drawing the largest crowd since the tradition began.
The festive ceremony was held on the Hildale City property that houses the Innovation Center, located near Highway 59. The illuminated structure, a metal tree-shaped centerpiece, is strategically placed to be one of the first welcoming sights for those entering Hildale from the west.
Despite the cold night, the atmosphere was warm and festive. The event featured a strong community sing-along, with attendees, council members from both Hildale and Colorado City, and both Mayors joining voices to perform classic Christmas songs, including “White Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Joy to the World.”
Children were seen lined up to receive hot chocolate and a cookie. Santa Claus walked through the crowd, passing out candy canes.
Hildale City Mayor Donia Jessop addressed the gathering, reflecting on the community spirit:
“We celebrated our fifth annual Christmas lighting—it was a beautiful way to kick off this holiday season. This event is about joy, creating traditions, and the magic that happens when we gather together as friends, family, and neighbors. Each year this event grows a little brighter. Not just because of the tree, but because of the wonderful people that show up to share in the spirit of the season.”
Mayor Jessop concluded by emphasizing the true magic of the evening:
“My favorite part is always listening to the children and seeing their big bright smiles. They truly bring the magic of Christmas to life.”
The successful fifth anniversary of the lighting event solidifies its place as a cherished and growing tradition for the two communities.
