COLORADO CITY, AZ – Garkane Energy wrapped up its series of annual meetings for 2024 at Cottonwood Elementary in Colorado City, drawing a strong turnout of approximately 160 members. The final meeting provided a platform for CEOs Dan McClendon of Garkane Energy and David Crabtree of Deseret Power to deliver insightful reports on the financial well-being and operational status of their respective organizations.

Both CEOs conveyed a message of stability and financial strength, assuring members that Garkane Energy and Deseret Power remain on solid footing despite the increasing complexities of the energy sector. A significant portion of the discussion centered on the anticipated impact of Clean Energy Regulations (CERs) in the coming years, a factor that will necessitate strategic adjustments for both entities.

David Crabtree of Deseret Power detailed ongoing efforts to extend the lifespan of their coal power plant and its associated coal mines, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining regional energy reliability. Looking towards the future, he also highlighted proactive planning to accommodate the burgeoning energy demands from emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data centers.

Dan McClendon of Garkane Energy echoed the sentiment of preparation, outlining the cooperative’s strategies to navigate the evolving energy landscape while prioritizing reliable and affordable service for its members. A key point of discussion for Garkane members was the proposed transition of the Twin Cities rate structure to align with Garkane’s standard A-class rate structure. This move aims to create a more consistent and equitable rate system across all regions served by the cooperative.

Attendees actively engaged with the CEOs during a question-and-answer session, raising important topics such as capital credits, the potential for alternative fuel sources in energy generation, and net metering policies. McClendon and Crabtree addressed these concerns directly, reiterating their commitment to prioritizing the long-term interests of their membership.

The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude for the continued support of the members and a pledge towards proactive and sustainable planning to ensure the future success and stability of both Garkane Energy and Deseret Power. Following the formal presentations and discussions, attendees had the opportunity to participate in prize drawings.

This final annual meeting emphasizes Garkane Energy’s commitment to transparency and member engagement as it navigates the evolving energy landscape and works to maintain reliable and affordable service for its communities.
