COLORADO CITY, AZ – The furry residents of Hildale and Colorado City are benefiting from a significantly enhanced Animal Control program in recent years, thanks in large part to the dedicated efforts of their Animal Control Officer (ACO), Officer Musser. This crucial role has been instrumental in creating a safer and more humane environment for the towns’ beloved animal companions and fostering a stronger relationship between pets, their owners, and the community.

Under the guidance of the police department, a fundamental shift has occurred, establishing the local impound as a no-kill facility. This commitment ensures that every animal brought into their care is given the best chance at a positive outcome. Whether reunited with their owners or transferred to reputable local shelters such as Best Friends Animal Society and RSQ DOGS for rehoming, no adoptable animal faces unnecessary euthanasia.

Officer Musser’s presence has allowed for more proactive engagement with the public. Through diligent education and consistent enforcement of the Hildale and Colorado City animal ordinances, the Animal Control program is fostering responsible pet ownership and addressing potential issues before they escalate. This proactive approach has contributed to a more positive and harmonious coexistence between residents and their pets.

“As the Animal Control Officer, I am dedicated to providing a safe and healthy place for them while they hang out at our impound,” Officer Musser stated. This dedication extends to the physical environment of the impound itself. Recognizing the importance of a clean and sanitary space, significant improvements have been made. Dogs are now housed on concrete surfaces rather than dirt, drastically reducing the risk of contracting dangerous diseases such as parvo, distemper, and rabies.

Furthermore, the Animal Control program has embraced technology to enhance convenience and accessibility for pet owners. A new online system, integrated into the Colorado City website, now allows residents to easily pay animal impound fees, purchase pet licenses, and even arrange for animal relinquishments. This online platform streamlines processes and provides a more user-friendly experience for the community.

Looking to the future, the Animal Control program has ambitious goals for further improvement. Plans are in motion to develop a better impound facility, acquire enhanced equipment, and create an even more enriching environment for the animals in their care.

The dedication of Officer Musser and the Colorado City/Hildale City Police Department highlights their commitment to providing the best possible services for the animals in their community and fostering stronger, more responsible engagement between residents and their cherished pets. The positive strides made in recent years signal a bright future for animal welfare in the Short Creek area.
