COLORADO CITY, AZ – Wheel Fun, the award-winning non-profit dedicated to bringing the joys of mountain biking to rural Arizona youth, is now in its second successful season of providing a free afterschool program in Colorado City. Following a successful launch, the initiative, spearheaded by Executive Director Evan Puglia, continues to empower local students with bikes, helmets, hydration packs, and expert coaching, all at no cost to the school.

Guided by their mission tocreate community, improve mental and physical health, and cultivate a love for the outdoors for underserved rural Arizona youth through mountain biking – encapsulated in their motto: Ride. Inspire. ConnectWheel Fun is making a tangible difference in the lives of Colorado City youngsters.

Local coach Ethan Barlow, instrumental in the program’s implementation and ongoing success, shares his enthusiasm. “The purpose of Wheel Fun is to get more young kids outdoors in rural communities,” Barlow stated. His passion for mountain biking and his ability to connect with the students are key to the program’s thriving environment. “My favorite thing about coaching is seeing the younger generation get out and do a hobby I love to do. It’s rewarding to watch them learn and grow.”

Wheel Fun’s commitment extends beyond just providing equipment. The organization focuses on creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where children can develop their skills at their own pace. “One thing I’ve learned while coaching is to be patient because every kid learns at their own pace,” Barlow noted.

The impact of Wheel Fun’s statewide efforts is significant. Across rural Arizona, the non-profit runs 41 programs and has reached approximately 1400 students. Wheel Fun’s broader vision includes establishing bike parks on school campuses to create sustainable biking opportunities. Currently, four such bike parks exist across their program locations.

The continued success of the Wheel Fun program in Colorado City, under the dedicated leadership of Evan Puglia and passionate coaches like Ethan Barlow, demonstrates the positive impact of providing accessible outdoor activities for rural youth. As they roll into their second season, Wheel Fun is further solidifying its role in fostering a love for the outdoors, promoting healthy lifestyles, and building a stronger, more connected community in Colorado City.
