Hildale, UT – The Water Canyon High School softball team is making strides, both on and off the field, according to Coach Dave Farrar. Following a recent series of games, Farrar praised the team’s performance, highlighting their offensive improvements and overall growth.

“We had a great performance today, showing growth and improvement,” Farrar stated. “Offensively, we hit well, with a standout triple and several solid base hits. The team put up an impressive 9 runs in total between two games, demonstrating strong offensive execution. It was a game full of great moments, and our progress as a team is evident.”

Beyond the scores, Farrar emphasized the team’s strong sense of community and the valuable life lessons being learned. “Water Canyon Softball is more than just a team—it’s a growing family of energetic, passionate young women who are embracing the game and learning valuable life lessons along the way,” he said.

Entering their fourth season, the program has seen significant growth, expanding from just nine players in its inaugural year to over 25 dedicated athletes. “Each day, these girls inspire us with their enthusiasm, determination, and love for the game. We focus on celebrating small victories—whether it’s a well-executed play, great sportsmanship, or simply the effort to improve,” Farrar explained.

The coaching staff, including Farrar and his wife Ali, prioritize creating a supportive and encouraging environment. “As coaches, we strive to bring a sense of family and unity to this team. We want every player to feel valued, supported, and encouraged, both on and off the field,” Farrar said. “Softball is more than just a sport, it’s about building lifelong friendships, learning to lift each other up, and working together toward a common goal. We emphasize teamwork, respect, and accountability, creating an environment where each girl knows she has a place and a role in something bigger than herself.”

Farrar, who has a lifelong connection to baseball and softball, brings a unique perspective to the team. “This is my first experience coaching at the high school level, but baseball and softball have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,” he shared. “Through my dad, I gained not only a deep understanding of the game’s rules and fundamentals but also a profound respect for coaches, umpires, and the values that sports instill.”

Farrar’s coaching philosophy centers on providing a positive, safe, and encouraging environment for the athletes. “Together, we have one simple but powerful rule: to ensure that these young ladies have a positive, safe, and encouraging environment where they can grow both as athletes and as individuals,” Farrar said.

The team benefits from strong community support, including parents, families, and local businesses. “Beyond the field, we are fortunate to have an incredible support system of parents, families, and community members who rally behind us,” Farrar noted. “Their encouragement, along with grants from MLB-sponsored programs and local businesses, has allowed us to provide quality equipment and meaningful opportunities for our players.”

The team is currently fundraising for a trip to watch a college softball game between BYU and U of U on April 17th. “Right now, we are working hard to raise funds for an exciting trip to watch a college game between BYU and U of U on April 17th—an experience that will give our girls a firsthand look at the game at the next level,” Farrar said.

“We are so proud of these young athletes and hope to equip them with not just softball skills, but lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship that will stay with them for life,” Farrar concluded.
