COLORADO CITY, AZ – What was once an aging relic in the heart of Colorado City has undergone a remarkable transformation. The former Standard Supply Building, later a WIC office, sat deteriorating alongside a dilapidated trailer. Today, it stands as a charming symbol of community revitalization and women’s empowerment.

In 2018, Voices for Dignity, a local non-profit organization, acquired the tiny building. What followed was an extensive renovation project, fueled by the dedication of countless volunteers. Local businesses volunteered their services for the restoration.

“It was truly a community effort,” says Voices for Dignity representative Christine Marie “So many people came together to make this happen.”

The result is a delightful charity boutique, themed as a 1953 English cottage. Inside, visitors are greeted with an array of locally made crafts, gifts, and sweets, all available for purchase. The boutique operates on a consignment model, providing local artisans with a platform to sell their goods and earn extra income. A small percentage of sales supports Voices for Dignity, helping to sustain the project.

A highlight of the “cottage” is its cupcake bar, offering a tempting selection of treats made by local bakers. Tea is provided free of charge, creating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere.

For years, Esther Bistline and Norma Richter were the driving forces behind the project, volunteering their time to keep the boutique running. Recently, Ashley Garcia joined the team and spearheaded a revitalization effort, taking the “cottage” to new heights.

“We have so much more planned for the future,” Garcia shares, hinting at exciting developments to come.

The boutique is currently open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, enjoy a cupcake and a cup of tea, and support local artisans. For those needing a larger quantity of cupcakes, calling in advance is recommended.

This charming “cottage” stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration and a beacon of empowerment for women in these communities.
