HILDALE, UTAH — The City of Hildale is gearing up for its next municipal election, scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, with voters set to elect one mayor and two city council members, each serving four-year terms.
Candidate filing opens on Monday, June 2, 2025, and runs through Friday, June 6, 2025, closing at 5:00 p.m. sharp. Residents interested in running must file in person with the Hildale City Recorder at 320 E. Newel Avenue during regular office hours. Filing forms will be available starting in advance of that week.
To qualify, candidates must be:
A U.S. citizen;
At least 18 years old;
A registered voter in Hildale;
A resident of Hildale or a recently annexed area for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election.
According to City Recorder Maxene Jessop, a primary election may be held on August 12, 2025, if more than two individuals file for the mayoral seat or more than four individuals file for the two council seats.
Short Creek’s Unique Election Cycle
Because the twin communities of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona — collectively known as Short Creek — are located in different states, municipal elections occur every year, alternating between the two cities.
Hildale (Utah) votes in odd-numbered years (like 2025).
Colorado City (Arizona) holds elections in even-numbered years (like 2024 and 2026).
This staggered cycle means that voters in the Short Creek area regularly engage in civic decision-making at the local level. In a region long known for its complicated history shifting power structures, these elections play a key role in shaping the future of governance, development, and community life.
As election season approaches, Hildale residents are encouraged to consider running for office or engaging in the public process, whether through candidacy, attending town meetings, or simply casting a vote.
