Short Creek Turkey Trot Sees Record Turnout
This year’s Short Creek Running Club Turkey Trot was one for the books. Nearly 200 runners showed up on Thanksgiving morning, November 28th, making it our biggest turnout ever.
One of the best parts of this year’s race was seeing so many families sign up and run together. We had more runners than ever before, including one family with over 20 participants.
“The Turkey Trot has become a family Thanksgiving tradition for the last 3 years. We actually had 21 family members join this time!” said Joanna Keate. “Having that positive support throughout the run has made all of us look forward to it every year. My daughter winning first in women’s was the absolute cherry on top.”
The sense of community extended beyond families to the entire event. “It was such a fun experience! I personally loved the opportunity for community and connection,” said Beth Barlow. “Getting cheered on by strangers in passing warmed my heart and evoked gratitude for all that we have in this beautiful town.”
Race winner Rulon Barlow echoed that sentiment. “I think running events and road races are one of those things that make a community feel more whole and connected and the turkey trot is doing just that. Every time I come out and run it I have a blast! Everyone is so supportive and welcoming, the location and course are awesome, and the post race orange slices are fantastic.”
Watching the event grow each year truly brings happiness to our hearts, and we love seeing the support from individuals, families, and local businesses in our community.
We’re incredibly thankful for our sponsors: Essential Coffee Co., Red Brick Take N Bake Pizza, Cherish Families, Sweet Sage Coffee Co., and Lawrence Stubbs. Their support helps make this event possible.
A huge thank-you also goes out to all the runners, volunteers, and everyone who came out to cheer on Thanksgiving morning. Special thanks to Lawrence and Ethan for volunteering year after year—and for once again rocking the turkey costume and keeping things fun.
Rulon added his gratitude for “Darlene and the short creek running club for putting the effort in to organizing events like this,” expressing excitement to see how much the event continues to grow in coming years.
The Short Creek Running Club Turkey Trot continues to grow, and we’re grateful to everyone who helps make it such a great community tradition.
