COLORADO CITY, AZ – Residents of the Colorado City area will once again face challenges accessing essential Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) services, as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has cancelled the authorization of Asset Insurance, a third-party MVD provider.
ADOT cited “repeated failures to properly comply with the requirements of their contract” as the reason for the cancellation. This disruption leaves residents without a local option for services such as driver’s license renewals, vehicle title transfers, and registration.
The situation echoes the previous challenges faced by the community. In May 2017, ADOT consolidated two of its offices on the Arizona Strip, leaving residents with no local MVD access. Asset Insurance subsequently applied to become a third-party provider, offering a solution. However, with the recent contract cancellation, residents are once again forced to travel significant distances.
Residents of Colorado City will now be required to travel to Littlefield, Arizona, or Page, Arizona, for MVD services. These extended travel distances create a significant burden, particularly for those with limited transportation options.
Asset Insurance released a statement to their “valued clients and community” explaining the reason for the closure. “We regret to inform you that we will no longer be offering Third-Party title and registration services. We have not been able to maintain ADOT’s 95% accuracy requirement. As a result of not being able to consistently meet this requirement, ADOT is revoking our Third-Party authority. We understand this may be an inconvenience to many in our community, and we sincerely appreciate your support over the years. For future MVD services, we encourage you to visit Littlefield or Page, many services can also be completed through your AZMVDNOW.gov account. Although this chapter is coming to a close, we are excited to now be able to fully focus on our insurance services, which we will continue to proudly offer to our community. Hopefully this will encourage the state to implement a state office DMV locally, please direct all questions and queries to 602-712-8217 or [email protected]. Respectfully, Asset Insurance LLC.”
Mayor Howard Ream is now actively seeking solutions to address the community’s needs. “I am in communication with state representatives to find solutions to our current deficiency due to the ADOT withdrawing the MVD resource from our community,” Mayor Ream stated.
ADOT has not yet announced plans to replace the services previously provided by Asset Insurance. This disruption highlights the ongoing challenges of providing accessible government services to rural communities in Arizona.
