Colorado City, Arizona – The El Capitan Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter is experiencing a remarkable resurgence, building on a legacy of excellence and forging a new path for its members. After a period of “reboot” following the passing of longtime advisor Ms. Linda Earl, the chapter is once again making waves, showcasing the talent and dedication of its students.
Under the guidance of Ms. Carol Timpson, CTE Director, and the newly appointed FBLA advisor, Mr. Mic Barca, the chapter has seen a surge in participation and achievement. Mr. Barca, hired in June, has been instrumental in mentoring approximately 20 students who joined FBLA this school year.
The chapter’s renewed energy was evident at the Arizona Region 5 FBLA competition in January, where seven El Capitan students represented their school with distinction. Cynthia Hansen, Stashia Dockstader, Justin Cooke, Riley Barlow, Armond Rohbock, Ray Fischer, and Alyssa Darger participated in a range of challenging events, including competency tests in accounting, financial math, public policy & advocacy, and performance-based competitions such as sales presentation, impromptu speaking, and hospitality and event planning.
The El Capitan team delivered outstanding results, bringing home six medals. Ray, Armond, Riley, and Justin secured 3rd place in the “Thinking on Your Toes” competitive event, demonstrating their quick thinking and problem-solving skills. Cynthia Hansen earned 1st place in Financial Math, and Riley Barlow took 1st place in accounting. Notably, both Cynthia and Riley’s first-place finishes, place them in the top five students statewide in their respective categories.
“The students’ performance at the regional competition is a testament to their hard work and dedication,” said Mr. Barca. “They have embraced the challenge and are proving that El Capitan FBLA is back and stronger than ever.”
Looking ahead, the El Capitan FBLA chapter is preparing for the Arizona State competition, scheduled for April 1-3. Ten students will represent the school at the state level, aiming to build on their regional success and further solidify the chapter’s resurgence.
The renewed success of El Capitan FBLA is a testament to the students’ commitment, the leadership of Ms. Timpson and Mr. Barca, and the enduring legacy of Ms. Linda Earl. The chapter is poised to continue its tradition of excellence and empower future business leaders in the community.
