Common Grounds Opens Its Doors: A New Space for Community, Connection, and Growth

Colorado City, AZ – January 25, 2025 – A large crowd gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Common Grounds, a dynamic new facility combining a thrift store and a youth center. The event was marked by speeches from local leaders, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and an open house that showcased the remarkable new building and its vision for the community.

Mayor Donia Jessop of Hildale opened the event by emphasizing the significance of this new space. “This building is more than just a structure; it will host countless human moments, spark new ideas, foster connections that transform lives, and provide a gathering place where healing, inspiration, and unity thrive.” Mayor Jessop expressed her belief in the positive impact Common Grounds will have on the local community for years to come.

Mayor Howard Ream of Colorado City shared similar sentiments, adding, “It’s a true honor to be here today for this historic occasion. The opening of Common Grounds is a moment we can all be proud of. This beautiful new facility stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of so many. It will not only enhance the beauty of our community but will also serve as an invaluable resource for the Short Creek Valley. We know that the thrift store and youth center will be a blessing for this community for many years.”

Brody Olson, founder of Common Grounds, took the stage to share the organization’s story. He recalled how it all began in 2013 with a small log cabin at the corner of Central Street and Johnson Avenue. Seeing the growing need for more space, Brody and his team worked diligently to create a larger, 16,000-square-foot facility that now houses both the thrift store and the youth center. He reflected on Common Grounds’ mission to promote community unity and bridge the gaps within the local population. Olson also expressed heartfelt thanks to the many individuals, organizations, and donors whose support made this vision a reality.

The grand opening was capped with a prayer of dedication and a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, officially marking the opening of the Common Grounds Thrift Store and Youth Center.

This new facility is poised to be a cornerstone of the community, offering practical services, a place for social interaction, and a hub for residents of all ages. With its focus on unity and connection, Common Grounds is set to make a lasting impact in the heart of Colorado City.
