Colorado City, AZ – May 20, 2025 – In a significant shift for local governance, voters in Colorado City have overwhelmingly approved a measure to directly elect their mayor. Unofficial results released by Mohave County show 159 votes in favor of the change and 40 against, indicating strong community support for the transition.
The successful ballot measure moves Colorado City away from a system where the mayor was appointed by the town council to one where the top municipal leader will be chosen directly by the voters. This move garnered support from nearly 80% of those who participated in Tuesday’s special election.
Out of 1,843 registered voters in Colorado City, 199 cast their ballots, resulting in a 10.8% voter turnout. While the participation rate was modest, the clear margin of victory signals a strong desire among residents for greater direct representation in local leadership.
