Centennial Park Softball League Celebrates 15 Years

CENTENNIAL PARK, AZ – For 15 years, the Centennial Park Softball League has been a cornerstone of summer in the community, providing a family-friendly venue for people to connect over the love of the game. Founded in 2009 with the goal of bringing friends and families together, the league has evolved into a beloved local tradition.

The league was originally established by Flinton Williams, who laid the groundwork for its community-focused mission. In its early years, Joel Williams and Robert Williams dedicated their time as volunteer umpires, helping to build a solid foundation that continues to this day. After a few years, Williams passed the leadership to Heber Horsley, who continued to run the league until passing it to Josh Williams for a year.

For the last decade, Samuel Timpson has taken the helm as league commissioner. Timpson says he has found great fulfillment in the role. “I have really enjoyed setting it up each year spending time with all the new and old faces that sign up,” he said. The league maintains an inclusive policy, ensuring that anyone who wants to join is welcome. “We don’t turn anyone away and we always encourage people to come have a good time and meet new people.”

The league has found a consistent home at El Capitan, the fields that have hosted games for every season except one. During a year of remodeling, the league was forced to play in Hurricane, Utah, an experience Timpson described as “a nightmare.” The league is grateful to have its home fields, and Timpson specifically acknowledged the support of Charles Williams, who works on the fields and keeps them in excellent condition.

As it celebrates its 15th year, the Centennial Park Softball League continues to serve its original purpose, providing a lasting source of summer fun and a cherished tradition for the entire community.
